Lil’s Last Day

Sad day in this house… After two years and two weeks of blessing our home with love, joy, coziness, and unbeatable squirrel scaring, our sweet Lil passed away. We are sad. Notch is sad. But we know Lil’s found relief (and maybe even her momma), so we are hanging on that… and sticking together. Read more →

Five years ago, Daniel and I spent our first night at the Douglas.  Mom & Dad had met the movers days before to unload our things.  We’d vacationed in Mexico with Dan’s family and driven across the country.  Daniel, my mother-in-law, and I arrived in the evening to find beds made and rooms cozily lit.  The next day Arkansas reminded us we weren’t in Mexico anymore by providing a proper thunderstorm… and a lush view of the woods.  Pretty much every day since has reminded us we are truly blessed.  What a wonderful half-decade it’s been.June 1, 2007 downpour

I beg your pardon for the old school date stamp.

Back from our trip Kansas City with my folks and the Grimms… We toured the new Kansas City Missouri temple in Liberty, ate at Spin!, got ice cream at Glacé, waited on a tow truck, and visited the American Girl store.

Kate Agrees: Clay Jenkinson on hotel rooms

I found this gem, while on an internet walkabout inspired by a wonderful blurb about Thomas Jefferson, by Clay Jenkinson, in one of Ken Burns’ national parks documentaries. “I’ve seen enough CSI television to know that my hotel room, no matter how tidy it looks, is actually a fetid swamp of bacteria, hair strands, the residue of gross bodily fluids,… Read more →

We’re still getting this setup. Come back later.

By then we should have links, posts, and the like.

But, don’t hold your breath, it’ll likely take a while. After all, we are living life.

Fog and my 4-hour Friend

I am addicted to audio books. And Arkansas is addicted to wearing new weather. Tonight AR has chosen a blanket of fog and some dang cold temperatures. More than audio books I am addicted to online window shopping. I remodel and redecorate Douglas (the home we are so blessed to house-sit, thank you to it’s namesake family). I reorganize my… Read more →

“…we welcome ourselves to this world wide web of knowledge and countless excuses for the lack thereof.”

Daniel is a pro at naming characters and I could make a career out of changing the subject. It feels like a new habit but I believe the reality is I am simply squaring with the facts… I cannot focus with my eyes open.

Tyler and Dan both swear up one side of this flat earth and down the other that they need loud music to focus their thought. I, on the other hand, am devoid of any such talent. In fact, I am so capable of falling prey to distraction that the only route to success comes not only in silence alone but in that tan wall my dad taught me to build behind my eyelids to aide me in my struggle to sleep.

Tonight, Madilyn and I worked on a children’s book for her AP history class. During the course of brainstorming I said something to the point of “I am incapable of staying on subject.” Dan looked so proud and simply said “That is the most self-aware thing I have ever heard you say.” I wonder if he knows if I have always been this way…

No matter, we welcome ourselves to this world wide web of knowledge and countless excuses for the lack thereof.
